CONFERENCE GOALS


"Our annual conference brings together a robust evidence base, featuring speakers from both the region and internationally, to update healthcare professionals on the care of injured and acutely unwell children. By the end of the conference, our multidisciplinary participants will have expanded their knowledge on a variety of key topics, enhanced their ability to recognize and manage common but potentially serious conditions, improved their critical thinking, engaged in discussions on research in Pediatric Emergency Medicine, and incorporated quality and patient safety goals into their practice."

Overarching Learning Objectives:
    • - Recognize serious illness and injury in children presenting to the ED.
    • - Discuss the best evidence for managing critically ill neonates and children.
    • - Manage a variety of medical, surgical, traumatic, behavioral, and technology-assisted presentations in children.
    • - Review the best articles in Pediatric Emergency Medicine (PEM) from the past year.
    • - Analyze cases using the best evidence to critically plan management.
    • - Evaluate clinical pathways in use in pediatric EDs
    • - Incorporate quality and patient safety goals into daily practice
    • - Evaluate academic practice in PEM
    • - Review interventions for a variety of toxicological ingestions.
    • - Identify red flags and utilize a systems-based approach when managing trauma.

The goal of the QPEM conference is to provide high-quality, evidence-based updates for healthcare practitioners involved in the urgent and emergent care of children. By the end of the conference, our multidisciplinary participants will have expanded their knowledge on a variety of key topics, improved their ability to recognize and manage common but potentially serious conditions, enhanced their critical thinking, engaged in discussions on research in PEM, and incorporated quality and patient safety goals into their practice.
