CONFERENCE CHAIRMAN
Dr. Khalid Al Ansari MD, FRCP-C, FAAP (PEM) is the inaugural Chairman of the Sidra Medicine Emergency Department that sees more than 80,000 children under the age of 18 years annually, including those seen as a level 1 Trauma Center: More than 500 Tier 1 and 2 patients annually. Dr. Al Ansari is the founder of National Poison Center and the founder of the Child Advocacy Program in Qatar. He is also the Chairman of the Sidra wide Hospital Resuscitation Program. Dr. Al Ansari's extensive expertise in Emergency Medicine, Acute Medical Care has helped him transform the delivery of Pediatric Emergency services to patients in Qatar. He is a qualified Pediatrician and Pediatric Emergency physician with over 17 years of experience in the field and holds Board exams in the US and Canada. He is a Professor of Clinical Pediatrics and Professor of Clinical Emergency Medicine at Weil Cornell Medical College-Qatar and Professor of Clinical Pediatrics at Qatar University. His research interest are in emergency respiratory diseases, gastroenteritis, pediatric sedation and child abuse in Qatar. He is the Chairman of IRB Qatar Biomedical Bank, Chairman of MOPH National Child Protection Committee and member of National Disaster Committee.

Dr. Syed Haris Huda has worked at Sidra Medicine since January 2019 as an Attending Physician. His particular interest is in dealing with and managing Trauma and Acute medical /surgical emergencies in the Adult and pediatric population. He is presently the Education Lead for the emergency medicine department. Over the years, he has demonstrated success in transformative initiatives that enhance patient care and operational efficiency as the Lead for Minor injuries in Emergency medicine at Sidra Medicine and Associate program director for the PEM fellowship program. He is the chairperson for the Pediatric Emergency Resuscitation Program (PERP) and Instructor in ACLS, PALS, APLS & ATLS life support courses. He is a faculty member at Weil Cornell Medicine in Qatar. During his career, he has led and managed Mass casualties and Bomb blast victims as well. He is particularly interested in Medical education & teaches junior colleagues, peers and Nursing colleagues. To excel in providing for his role as an Educator, he completed his fellowship in Adult & Medical education from the American College of Emergency Physician.

Dr. Sohail Ghani, an Attending Physician graduated from Pakistan and completed his Pediatric fellowship at Nishtar Medical Institute, Pakistan. Dr. Ghani pursued further training in Pediatrics in the South West of England, which included completion of special interest module in Pediatric Epilepsy. Dr. Ghani served as national trainee representative for the RCPCH examination for 2 years and is a member of central board of examiners for the RCPCH. Dr. Ghani worked in the Middle East including Dubai and Saudi Arabia, prior to moving to the UK.

Dr. Nasser A. A. Haidar MRCP (UK), ABMS, KSUF, PCCM, M. Med Education is a Senior Consultant and Education Lead at PECs HGH-HMC, Qatar. He is also Associate Professor of Pediatrics and Pediatric Critical Care Medicine in University of Science and Technology in Sana'a, Clinical Associate Professor in Qatar University and formerly CEO of the University of Science and Technology Hospital, UST, Sana'a. He has chaired several committees, published several articles, and Associate Editor. He has been honored a national prize for the best medical research and ideal resident during postgraduate studies. He is a director, Instructor, and shared in constructing several medical courses, participated in several international medical conferences. Dr. Nasser is a Co-chair of Scientific Committee of QPEM and ISPCAN Qatar.

Dr. Barbara Blackie MD, FRCPC, MEd has recently arrived back to Nova Scotia after 10 years working in Qatar, where she was the Education Lead and a Senior Attending Physician in Pediatric Emergency Medicine, responsible for the training, systems testing and leading interprofessional teams for a safe opening of a new peds ED in a greenfield tertiary, level one trauma center.
She provided faculty development, education/training for staff and led the Simulation Program for the department. She was also a lead on the interprofessional, simulation based training program the trauma teams and TTLs in order to open the major trauma program at Sidra Medicine. She was a Master Trainer for the TeamSTEPPS program at Sidra, helped create and taught the Peds ED lead Pediatric Procedural Sedation Program, POCUS, PALS, and ATLS, Regional Anesthesia, PERP (Pediatric Emergency Resuscitation Program), the Pediatric Airway Course.
She was also a key lead in developing the Evidence Based Medicine and Research Methodology Course. Other activities include co-chair for the Scientific Committee for QPEM, the annual Pediatric Emergency Medicine Conference, and she was Vice Chair for the Procedural Sedation Committee at Sidra.
She was an external CME/CPD Surveyor for the Department of Health Professionals (DHP) at the Ministry of Public Health in Qatar and sat on the CME/CPD Advisory Committee at Weill Cornell Medical College, where she also had a faculty appointment. Prior to the move to Doha, she worked at the IWK ED, and held the role of Associate Chief (Education) for the Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine, and was the inaugural Program Director for the Pediatric Emergency Medicine residency/fellowship program. She has rejoined the team at the IWK ED and is looking forward to helping in a variety of capacities with the opening of their new ED in 2026!

In 2018, she completed her master’s degree in health professional educaon from Aga Khan University Hospital, followed by Ph.D. in simulaon from the MGH IHP, an affiliate of Harvard, USA. She is appointed recently as Simkids Medical director. Dr. Fayyaz is the PEM internaonal fellowship program director and resuscitaon lead. Dr. Fayyaz is also the Internaonal Paediatric Simulaon Society (IPSS) - INSPIRE PED Simulaon fellowship Chair and Board of INSPIRE and IPSS directors. Being passionate about ulizing distance simulaon for community outreach and capacity building, In the last 3 years, she worked with Indus Hospital and the health network; she has implemented a simulaon-based PEM curriculum for EM residents and a one-year PEM cerficaon program with 27 physicians graduang in July 2023. A Simulaon instructor course for faculty development was implemented, and more than 50 educators have been trained for simulaon-based educaon in Pakistan. Her internaonal work connued in India, Egypt, and Ireland. In addion, at SickKids, Dr. Fayyaz is the resuscitaon lead for the competency-based medical educaon program (CBME) for Faculty, Faculty lead for the Hot wash debriefing program, Chair resuscitaon oversight commitee and ED lead for CPR coach role implementaon. Dr. Camilo E. Gutierrez is an internationally recognized Pediatric Emergency Physician, with experience as a clinician, educator, and expert in international pediatric emergency care. Director of Global Health Programs for the Division of Emergency Medicine at Children’s National Hospital, and Associate Professor of Pediatrics and Emergency Medicine at George Washington University School of Medicine, in Washington DC. Dr. Gutierrez is a key opinion leader at the advisory level in the development of acute care systems at the local, country and regional level globally, with emphasis in development of pediatric acute and emergency care systems. He is Immediate Past-Chair for the ACEP International EM Section, and active in the International and Ambassador Committees. Internationally he is Immediate Past-Chair of the Pediatric Emergency Medicine Special Interest Group of the International Federation of Emergency Medicine, and member of the Specialty Implementation, Education, and Curriculum Committees. He is Founding and Board Member of the first Latin American Pediatric EM Society (SLEPE). Dr. Gutierrez is a recognized speaker both locally and in over a dozen countries where he has presented over 100 lectures and has authored over 60 publications. His interests expand on international and global health care arenas, development of pediatric acute care systems, pediatric trauma and critical care in the ED, ultrasound, shock, difficult airway management and procedural sedation. He is past Chair and Medical Director of the EMS-C Advisory Committee for Massachusetts, past Co- Chair of the MACEP Pediatric EM Section, and has served as VP of the Global Emergency Medicine Academy of SAEM, through AAEM International Committee has been involved in collaborating with leading Pediatric EM topics and speakers for their international conferences. Dr. Gutierrez has established an international reputation as a leader, supporter, and promoter of the importance of pediatric emergency care in regions worldwide. He is sought after for his opinion, his capacity to network, craft partnerships and engage stakeholders as he advocates for the care of children globally.

Over the past 20+ years at Weill Cornell Medicine, my career contributions have been shaped into three domains: Clinical Excellence, Innovation, and Scholarship. As Chief of the division of pediatric emergency medicine, I have dedicated my career to building a clinical center of excellence for the emergency care of children at NYP/Weill Cornell Medicine. I have developed an innovative and novel telemedicine virtual urgent care service to extend the care of children remotely.
I have been involved in research and published on areas of interest including mental and behavioral health in children, physician burnout, telemedicine, narrative medicine, and covid-19 in children. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic I led my division in adapting to the unprecedented and varied clinical demands as front-line workers in the emergency department for patients of all ages.
I continue to build the division of pediatric emergency medicine by recruiting outstanding PEM faculty and advocating for their wellbeing, academic development, scholarship, and promotion.

I am a Consultant Community Paediatrician. Prior to this I was working as an Acute Paediatrician and Neonatologist at North Manchester General Hospital and latterly, East Cheshire NHS Trust. I have been involved with both Undergraduate and Postgraduate Medical Education since my appointment as a consultant in 2007.
I have been appointed as an Honorary Prof in Medical Education at the University of Salford since June 2023. In my current post I am the Associate Hospital Dean for Staff Development for Undergraduate Medical Education.
I undertake clinics in Autism assessment, looked after children in care and migrant children and child protection. As an Acute Paediatrician my special interests were Respiratory, Rheumatology and Coeliac Disease.
I am academically active and have published in leading journals. I am active in research and been involved in both regional and international research. I teach regularly to a wide audience from medical students, Paediatricians to General Practitioners.
My interests in Medical Education include leadership in trainees, enhancing educational supervision qualities and educator development.

Dr. Naeem Zafar, with >25 years’ experience in child protection is Convener Child Rights Group-Pakistan Pediatric Association, President PAHCHAAN, President Pakistan Pediatric Association (Punjab), Member BOD, ISPCAN, and Chairman BOD Pakistan Alliance for Early Childhood. He initiated First Hospital Based Child Protection Unit in South Asia, expanding to Child Protection Networks in 12 districts now. He received President of Pakistan Community Pediatrician Award in 2020, and “Everyday Hero Award” by ICMEC, USA in 2021. He has authored many articles on child protection and conducted national and international trainings on CSEA. He has conducted many projects and research with ECPAT International.

Dr. Razzak is a Professor of Emergency Medicine and Population Health at Weill Cornell Medicine and serves as the founding Director of Research in the Department of Emergency Medicine. He has previously held tenured Professorships in Emergency Medicine at Johns Hopkins University and Aga Khan University based on his three decades of research and research capacity-building work on emergency care delivery in low—and middle-income countries. As founding chair of Emergency Medicine at Aga Khan University in Karachi, Pakistan, Dr. Razzak established the country's first academic emergency medicine department, inaugural residency director, and led the establishment of the field of emergency medicine in Pakistan, including serving as national emergency medicine faculty lead.
Dr. Razzak is an internationally recognized academic leader in emergency care. His work has focused on an evidence-based approach to emergency care in low and middle-income countries. His appointment as the inaugural director of the World Health Organization's (WHO) Collaborating Center on Emergency Care in the Eastern Mediterranean Region, representing countries in South Asia, the Middle East, and North Africa, marked a pioneering achievement. Over almost a decade, he served as a key technical lead for the WHO, assisting the organization in synthesizing evidence on road traffic injuries, trauma, and emergency care for 21 countries. His consultative work with governments of nations including Pakistan, UAE, Qatar, Djibouti, Iraq, Iran, Libya, Brazil, and Nigeria strengthened emergency care precisely when it was most needed. In 2016, Dr. Razzak was asked to establish and lead NIH’s Collaborative on Enhancing Emergency Care Research in LMICs (CLEER), the first such effort at the NIH.

Khalid Al Yafei (MD) is a senior pediatric emergency physician and former chief of medical informatics. He has also been an associate professor at Weill Cornell Medical College-Qatar and the Medical College of Qatar University. As Dr. Alyafei is actively involved in many research studies, he’s also a strong advocate in public education with a particular interest in injury prevention, home safety, and child abuse prevention. In 2008, Dr. Al Yafei embarked on his illustrious journey in health informatics and education. Prior to joining Sidra Medicine as the Chief of Neurosurgery, Dr. Pople was Senior Pediatric Neurosurgeon at Bristol Royal Hospital for Children, UK, where he led the development of the Epilepsy Surgery and SDR services for Children and performed over 2000 pediatric neurosurgical procedures. For the first 20 years of his career he was a consultant neurosurgeon at Frenchay Hospital in Bristol dealing with over 500 cases a year including all types and head and spinal trauma.

From the Faculty of Medicine, Tripoli University in Libya, I have completed both an MBBS and a postgraduate diploma in child health. In 1993, I went to the UK where I qualified from post-graduate and specialist training in pediatrics. In 1996 I qualified for the MRCP(UK) before advancing to specialist training which I completed at Oxford deanery with the certificate of specialist training (CCT) in pediatrics. In 2011, I left the UK where I had been working for over 14 years in the NHS hospitals to relocate to Qatar. Since 2011, I have been employed as Sr Consultant in pediatric emergency HGH. In addition to clinical practice, I am also involved in research and quality projects. Dr. Finza Latif is a senior attending physician at Sidra Medicine, medical director of the child and adolescent psychiatry consultation service and the program director of the child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship. She received her medical degree from Rawalpindi Medical College, Pakistan, completed her General Psychiatry Residency at University of Texas, and her Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship training at Johns Hopkins Hospital in the USA. Her areas of focus include medical education, program development and standardization of care for physically ill children with a special focus on eating disorders, conversion disorders and suicide risk reduction. She has also published on these topics. She is a Distinguished Fellow of the American Academy of child and Adolescent psychiatry and received the Simon Wile Leadership in Consultation award in 2022.

Omair Mohammed Syed is an Attending Physician in Pediatric Emergency Medicine. He joined Sidra Medicine in September 2022. Dr. Syed completed his post-graduation in Emergency Medicine in India. He then moved to the UK, where he pursued higher specialist training in Emergency Medicine with a subspecialty in Pediatric Emergency Medicine at Cambridge University Hospitals, UK—a Major Trauma Centre for both adults and pediatrics in the East of England. He was awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Emergency Medicine, UK, along with a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT).
Before moving to Qatar, Dr. Syed was the Lead Consultant of the Pediatric Emergency Department in his previous role. He also served as the Lead Consultant for Point of Care Ultrasound in the Emergency Department and is a faculty member on the Cambridge Level 1 Ultrasound course accredited by the Royal College of Emergency Medicine, UK. Additionally, he was a panel member on the Annual Review of Clinical Progression (ARCP) for trainees in Emergency Medicine in the UK and an interviewer for the national recruitment of trainees in Emergency Medicine. Dr. Syed is also an Examiner for the Royal College of Emergency Medicine, London (UK). He is currently the Vice-Chair of the Pediatric Sedation Committee at Sidra Medicine.

Dr Suha Turkmen is a Professor of Emergency Medicine with over 20 years of clinical and academic experience. He earned his MD from Ondokuz Mayis University and completed his residency at Karadeniz Technical University. He has held faculty positions at several universities, including Acibadem University and Qatar University. Currently, he is a Consultant at Hamad Medical Corporation and a Professor at Qatar University. Dr. Turkmen has published over 84 research articles with more than 1550 citations and an H-index of 23. His research focuses on emergency medicine topics such as clinical decision-making and chest tube simulation models. He is actively involved in teaching, providing training to both undergraduate and postgraduate students. In addition to his academic and clinical roles, he has served as an editor and reviewer for professional journals and is a member of several medical associations. Dr. Turkmen has received multiple awards for his contributions to emergency medicine.

Dr. Ahmad Alshami is currently a Consultant in Pediatric Emergency Center Al Sadd, Pediatrics Department of Hamad General Hospital which is part of the Hamad Medical Corporation. Dr. Ahmad has Doctor’s Degree in Medicine from Damascus University in Syria, has Arab Board of Health Specialization in Pediatrics, European Board in Pediatrics, and has completed Fellowship Training Program in Pediatric Emergency Medicine from HMC. Dr Roona Aniapravan joined Sidra Medicine in December 2017 and has been working as an Attending Physician in Pediatric Emergency. She is the Program Director for PEM Fellows and Residents. Dr Roona was the Sepsis Lead for Pediatric Emergency and member of Pediatric Emergency and Hospital Guideline Committee.
Prior to joining Sidra Medicine, Dr Roona worked as a Consultant Pediatrician for 6 years at Ipswich Hospital, United Kingdom. In addition to working as a Consultant Pediatrician, Dr Roona has also a keen interest in Pediatric Pulmonology and Allergy and was the Respiratory Lead for 6 years at Ipswich Hospital, UK.

Muhammad is a UK trained Emergency Medicine physician who completed training in the UK in 1999, and went on to train in adult Emergency Medicine. He also has extensive experience caring for children. He has been at Sidra Medicine for almost 3 years working as a consultant physician. He has a special interest in pediatric trauma, as well as in quality governance. He is the former lead for morbidity and mortality in the ED, and the current Pediatric Quality and Trauma Lead for the ED at Sidra Medicine.

Frankie Nolasco Famillaran is a Nurse Educator in the Pediatric Emergency Department at Sidra Medicine. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree, a Master's in Nursing, and a Diploma in Critical Care. Prior to his role at Sidra, Frankie served as a Nurse Educator specializing in Emergency, Trauma and Critical Care at King Fahad Medical City in Riyadh. He was a faculty member for several prestigious programs, including the Diploma in Critical Care, Advanced Diploma in Cardiac Care, Diploma in Oncology, Diploma in Emergency, and Advanced Stroke Care programs at the National Neuroscience Institute at KFMC and SCFHS. He also served as the program lead for the "Ministry of Health - Emergency Departments Development Program," which aimed to facilitate the acquisition of the required knowledge and skills to provide a high standard of care for all Emergency Departments across the kingdom. He is currently the course director of ENPC(ENA, USA) here in Qatar.

Nitesh Kumar graduated (bachelor’s in emergency and Trauma care Technology ) from, Chennai (India), July-2010. Master in Business Administration -Hospital Management (MBA-HM) from (India) June-2014, Master in Public Health (MPH) from (India)-Dec-2016, Post Graduate certificate course in Diabetic Educator (RECOG By International Diabetes Foundation) India, Dec-2012 and Post Graduate (PG) Certificate Course in Quality Management and Accreditation of Hospital Organization (QM & AHO) India, Dec- 2013.
Currently, Nitesh is Working with Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) as Ambulance paramedic/Project Coordinator since 30th of September-2018 till date. Previously he worked with King Hamad University Hospital Kingdom of Bahrain (Bahrain Defense Force) and Max Healthcare , New Delhi India as Emergency Paramedic/EMS Educator. He has 13+ years of experience in field of EMS as Paramedic and Educator. Nitesh has been serving as a voluntary International Instructor of American Heart Association for BLS/ACLS and PALS for last 13 years. Nitesh is One of the South East Asia (PEER-Country) Instructor for Hospital Occupational preparedness in emergency (HOPE-TFI) He is also EMS Assessor for Healthcare Sector Skills Council (HSSC).
His areas of interest (subspecialty interest) in EMS and Disaster Management, Hospital Disaster management, Mass-gathering Medical care, Resuscitation and Academic Emergency Medical Services.

The foremost posts being an exclusive paediatric settings and subsequently Clinical nurse manager (mixed children’s and adult emergency department).
After a successful career based in Pediatric Emergency medical intervention, Andrew now works as a Clinical Nurse Lead at Qatar’s flagship women and Children’s hospital - Sidra Medicine. He is currently involved in the implementation and development of numerous projects (including children's behavioural health), aimed at improving the healthcare response at Sidra Medicine across a wide scope.

MS Joy Ademola is a Social Work Supervisor at Sidra Medicine, where she leads both the Child Protection/Safeguarding Service and the Charity Process. She holds a Masters in Social Work (MSW) and a Bachelor’s Degree with honors in Social Policy and Health. Joy has been a qualified Social Worker in the United Kingdom for 24 years and has extensive experience from her previous role as a Social Work Manager in a Children and Family Department in England.
In addition to her managerial and supervisory roles, Joy is a qualified Practice Educator, specializing in the teaching and assessment of social work students in alignment with Social Work England standards. Joy’s professional journey reflects a deep commitment to child protection and support services. Her passion for safeguarding victims and their families is evident in her current leadership roles, where she focuses on advancing protective measures and charitable initiatives at Sidra Medicine. Joy’s passion for child protection and her commitment to supporting victims and their families drive her current professional focus. She is also in the process of applying for a Doctorate ( PHD) in Social Work, with research aimed at exploring the impact of multiple child care systems on attachment development, in the Middle East. Karine Khoder is a Clinical Nurse at Sidra Medicine in Qatar, specializing in pediatric emergency care. At Sidra since 2018, Karine has been integral to pediatric resuscitation and trauma care and is a certified instructor for BLS, PALS, and ACLS. Jen has a Master’s Degree in Community and Disability Studies and a Bachelor of Philosophy in Leadership Studies from her home country of Canada. She has worked at Sidra Medicine for 2.5 years as a Child Life Specialist II, supporting the PICU, Complex Care, and Nephrology. Jen’s previous experience also includes Hospice and Respite care, Surgery, and Emergency. Jen is an advocate for teaching kids about what is happening to them in the medical environment based on their development level.
